How To Work Out Your Power Level
Your power level is how many posts you have, simple as that.
The effect this has is explained in the T1 thread.
Everyone starts with 10000 posts to make sure that new members aren't going to be crushed by the stronger members.
Unlocking Abilities
For the first 1000 posts you make, your character will unlock new abilities every 100 posts. To start with, all characters can only do basic melee attacks (one physical attack per post) and simple ki/energy blasts. As they progress, fighting abilities will grow and develop, until they are ready to experience their first major transformation!
Following are the abilities you can unlock with your Power Level...
Transformations & Boosts
There are various ways to boost your Power Level. These are all called 'Transformations' and 'Boosts'.
Transformations set your Power Level and Boosts raise it.
Activating any Transformation takes 1 full turn, but Boosts can vary.
If you go through stages in your Transformations, like going through Super Saiyan to get to Super Saiyan 2, you may go through all stages in the same turn to reach the highest stage if you wish, otherwise it will still take 1 full turn to power up further later.
Usually, you consider your character as being at what's called 'Base 100%', meaning your Post Count is your Power Level.
Eventually, you might unlock a 120% transformation, which makes your Power Level become your Post Count x1.2 (just grab a calculator or use the calculator program on your computer).
A 130% transformation multiplies your Post Count by 1.3, etcetera.
Get it?
Boosts are added to your Transformation, so if you have a +3% and a +2% boost with a 110% Transformation, you are considered at 115% Power, which multiplies your Post Count by 1.15.
I hope that makes sense.
Unfortunately, all characters have a state called Weakened 50%, which occurs when a character is exhausted, gets their ass kicked too much, or uses too much ki/energy.
When this happens, all Boosts are lost, and it becomes impossible to use any Transformations.
Having your Power Level halved is disastrous and means your defeat is imminent.
The bright side of this is that, provided you've unlocked the ability, you can use your Desperation Attack!
A Desperation is a devastating and wild attack where you use all you have left to defeat your opponent, or at least bring them down a notch. You become completely unable to fight or defend yourself, or even escape, afterwards, though, so use it well!
Scouter Power Levels
Multiply your power level by 10 to get a scouter reading for your character.
Some players prefer to use scouter power levels over regular power levels, so don't be worried if you see someone saying their power level is over 100'000.

Following are the abilities you can unlock with your Power Level...
- 10100 - Combos
You may type out multiple physical attacks in the same post. If any combo hit lands, the opponent is stunned for a moment to almost guarantee the next hit, which leads to another, and another, etcetera... but each hit must be typed out in full in your post. You may not just say 'goes for a 100 hit combo'. However, you may state using a 'flurry', which is a high-speed barrage of punches or kicks. They do less damage per hit but due to their speed are way harder to avoid or block. - 10200 - Powerful Ki/Energy Attacks
You were already able to use ki/energy, but now you can gather it together for devastating blasts and waves. This will therefore release the potential of most signature attacks. - 10300 - After Image
At any time, such as when dodging an attack, you can leave a shimmering image of yourself behind, while you seem to vanish completely for a moment! You will re-appear a moment later to where you dashed.
You move so fast during this that it's almost as if you teleported.
But really, you didn't teleport, it's just regular movement, but at high speeds.
Also, note that while you're using this ability, you consume a little ki from such high speed movement. If your opponent has an equal or greater speed than you, then you have to consume more ki to push yourself to move so fast to leave a worthy after image... as a result this will drain ki rapidly, so it's best not used too often. - 10400 - Mirror Image
You can dash around your opponent leaving multiple after images behind to confuse them. You can even move so fast that you can disappear from sight to normal eyes, and then suddenly you can re-appear for a surprise attack!
Of course, unless you're significantly stronger than your opponent to be able to naturally outclass their speed to this extent, this drains a lot of ki to keep this going for long. - 10500 - Ki Sensing
Anyone on the same planet who isn't suppressing their Power Level can be sensed by you (unless they're an Android). You feel their spirit, and know the general direction to go find them. This isn't exact, so it won't always help you in battle.
In addition, you're more in touch with you own ki, and can suppress it to even 0% if necessary to hide yourself from others who might sense you.
Note: You may delay this up until as late as 11'000 to learn the other abilities sooner. If you do delay this until 11'000, you get your first major transformation 100 posts sooner.
You must delay this if you are on Vegeta or Icer, as those planets restrict the ability to learn how to sense ki. - 10600 - Skydancing
You can use your ki/energy to levitate and move around in the air. You don't have much speed like this, and you can't use it to get around from place to place, but it's very useful when using ki/energy attacks against opponents who don't have this ability. - 10700 - Desperation Attack
If your Transformation is reduced to Weakened 50%, but your opponent's is not, you may use the Desperation Attack you created for your character.
If you wish to alter your desperation, do it way before the first time you use it, and have a staff member check it over. Once you've used it, you keep it.
You may not alter your desperation if you're in battle. So make sure it's not too late. - 10800 - Ki/Energy Control & Telepathy
You are now able to control the paths of your single powerful ki/energy attacks for as long as you continue to fire them (waves) or maintain focus on them and nothing else (blasts).
You can now also fire energy blasts and waves that were once restricted to being fired from just your hands from your feet or mouth when necessary. However, any attack that is fired unnaturally like this becomes fairly weaker.
Lastly, in addition to all of this, you can now speak telepathically to any character in the same thread as you. - 10900 - Skyclashing
You have full flight abilities now. You can fight and move in the air just as well as on the ground. Flying can be used as an effective and fast method of transportation, now, too. - 11000 - First Major Transformation!
What this is depends on your race, and may have requirements. Check your race's transformation list for more details.
