For all races, except Namekians, Androids, and Changelings, if you can collect a total of 50 combat posts in any major transformation (the ones every 1000 posts), you will be considered as having 'mastered' that transformation.
Note that using any 'intermediate' transformation collects posts toward the major transformation directly before it, even though intermediate transformations themselves cannot be mastered.
Having mastery over a transformation means you can sustain it for an extended period of time, and possibly even hold on to it outside battle indefinitely as if it were your base form.
Note that ki drain isn't cut to zero, but it is heavily reduced nonetheless.
Exceptions
Super Saiyan: This works differently thanks to the 'Full Power Super Saiyan' transformation.
Super Saiyan 3: You can instead learn to master 'Full Power Super Saiyan 3', therefore removing the time limit altogether in the process.
Demonic Rage Forms: You cannot master these, but combat posts do go toward mastering the 'non-rage' versions of whatever you're using.
Cutting Ki Drain to Zero
Once a transformation is mastered, if you decide to actually fight at the major transformation below it (the one 20% down), you suffer no ki drain.
Transformation Times
Usually a transformation takes one full post during which your character expands and raises their ki to a new level. However, any transformation that requires absolutely no ki at all, or is 'mastered' can be activated in an instant.
Note that changelings will always need time to transform or unleash their 'Full Power' modes.
Mystic Mastery
Any transformations mastered prior to becoming Mystic actually become masteries of the transformations 2000 posts below.
If you master any transformations while Mystic, then upon losing Mystic, your masteries are moved up to the transformations 2000 posts above.
So if you master Super Saiyan 4 before going Mystic, you get Mastered Super Saiyan 2 (once you reach enough posts and unlock it).
If you master Super Saiyan while Mystic, you get Mastered Full Power Super Saiyan 3 (once you reach enough posts and unlock it) if you lose Mystic.
You vs You
You gain nothing toward your masteries when two characters controlled by you fight each other.
